Actor, Director, Writer and Advocate

Andrew McCarthy is a celebrated actor and director who career has spanned for more than 30 years and whose performances have moved many. He has appeared in numerous films and television shows including Less Than Zero, Pretty in Pink, St. Elmo’s Fire, Weekend at Bernie’s, Law & Order and Gossip Girl. Mr. McCarthy is also one of today’s leading travel writers and is editor-at-large for National Geographic Traveler magazine. What many may not know is that Mr. McCarthy struggled with addiction in his early life and has been in recovery for more than 25 years. A previously accomplished writer, Mr. McCarthy recently published the memoir Brat: An 80s Story in May of 2021 which highlights his experience as an actor in the 1980s and his path to recovery. Mr. McCarthy’s story is inspiring and East House is thrilled to welcome him as keynote speaker for the twelfth annual Hope & Recovery Luncheon celebration.
