2024 Hope & Recovery Celebration
featuring
Chaz Bono
Thursday, September 19, 2024
Every September, in honor of recovery month, the Rochester community joins together to celebrate people living positively in recovery. East House’s annual Hope & Recovery Celebration raises funds for East House programs and services while breaking down stigmas associated with mental health and substance use disorders.
Chaz Bono is an American character actor and activist, and the only child of famed entertainers Sonny and Cher. He is best known for his work as an actor on American Horror Story and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Bono has a rich history of advocating for LGBTQ rights and continues to be a strong voice and passionate champion of equality for all Americans, especially those discriminated against and targeted because of race, religion, sex, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or gender identity. He has published three books and produced and shared his life and experiences in the three-time Emmy-nominated documentary, Becoming Chaz.
What many do not know is that for many years, along with his gender identity, Chaz also struggled with substance use disorder. Today, he is 20 years sober. East House is proud to welcome him as our 2024 Hope & Recovery Celebration speaker as he candidly shares his personal journey of attaining and maintaining sobriety, gaining acceptance from his family, and proceeding with his transition in the public eye.
All proceeds from the Hope & Recovery Celebration empower East House to continue to provide quality housing and recovery support services to people in recovery from mental health and substance use disorders.
