The journey of recovery often includes interruptions to school or work, especially in moments of crisis. East House offers educational and occupational supports onsite and through partnerships in the community.

The Paul Wolk Learning Center prepares individuals for the classroom or job site based on what your goals are. We partner with certified teachers from BOCES who help prep for the Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC, formerly GED) and finishing a high school degree.

Career counselors work one-on -one with people to find volunteer positions, complete vocational training, and apply to college or an apprenticeship.

The annual James Papero Enrichment Program offers clients a 2-week college “test drive” on RIT’s campus, mirroring an undergraduate experience with a schedule of vocational and educational courses, transportation, and career exploration trips. Designed to help build confidence and interest in returning or applying to school, the program also offers financial scholarships for graduate courses and connections to resources for participants.

East House’s financial assistance not only helped defer the cost of last semester’s tuition but also allowed me to purchase books. This year I was fortunate and blessed to celebrate two years of sobriety, I am currently enrolled in my second semester at Rochester Colgate Crozer Divinity School and am involved in my church, social activism and organizing. All of this is possible by the grace of God and the continued support I receive as a beneficiary from all of you wonderful folks at East House.
