Canal Commons Receives 2024 Sustainable Communities Redevelopment Project Award

This award highlights the tremendous benefits Canal Commons has brought to our community and its residents.

Lindsay Gozzi-Theobald, President & CEO of East House, expressed, “As Developer and Project Sponsor, East House is honored to receive this award. Rochester’s Susan B. Anthony neighborhood has a robust history, and this adaptive reuse remediation project honors that spirit.”

The $64 million Canal Commons project significantly addresses the critical need for safe, affordable housing in Rochester, NY, while also supporting those in recovery from mental health and substance use disorders. The project includes 123 units, with 53 designated as affordable housing, 37 for individuals with mental health disorders, 25 for those with substance use disorders, and 8 for chronically homeless individuals. Additionally, 17 units are adapted for mobility impairment and 5 for hearing or vision impairment.
